Why temperature matters
Before going over the ideal temperature range for vaping medical cannabis flower, let's first have a look at why the temperature you set your vaporiser to matters.
Both cannabinoids and terpenes (the two primary groups of therapeutic compounds in medical cannabis) have different boiling points. They vaporise at different temperatures, meaning that patients can target certain compounds by adjusting the temperature of their vaporiser.
For example:
By setting your vaporiser to a specific temperature, you can control which compounds are being inhaled and, in doing so, fine-tune your medical cannabis experience according to your health needs.
Finding the right vape temperature for you
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to what temperature you should vape your medical cannabis flower at. It depends on the specific cultivar being vaped, the desired effects, and personal preferences.
However, as a general rule of thumb, most patients find that setting their vaporiser between 180-220°C provides a good balance of beneficial outcomes. You can try slowly raising the temperature and experimenting with different cultivars to find your ideal temperature for each cultivar prescribed.
Some things to keep in mind:
- Lower temperatures (155 to 180°C) may be best for patients looking for a more uplifting and energising experience, with more terpenes being preserved.
- Medium temperatures (180 to 200°C) tend to provide a more balanced experience, with a mix of both cannabinoids and terpenes being vaporised.
- Higher temperatures (above 200°C) may be best for patients seeking a more sedating and pain-relieving effect, as the higher temperatures tend to vaporise more cannabinoids. Higher temperatures also tend to produce thicker vapour, which some patients prefer.
That said, the above should not be taken as medical advice. It is essential to listen to your body and the prescribing specialist's advice and adjust accordingly.
Your Releaf prescribing specialist will work with you to find a medical cannabis cultivar that is appropriate for your condition and overall health needs, covering the cannabinoids and terpenes that will provide the best therapeutic outcomes for you.
