When it comes to providing the highest quality care for our patients, we at Releaf are committed to sourcing only the best, most innovative solutions. That's why we chose to partner with Omura. From the outset, our goal was clear: to offer a medical cannabis experience that is safe, efficient, and user-friendly.

After months of research into heat-not-burn technology, Omura's cutting-edge devices stood out as the perfect match for our mission. Their biodegradable Flowersticks, precise dosage control, and sleek design not only meet our standards but exceed them, ensuring that our patients receive the very best in medical cannabis technology.

Why Omura?

We believe our patients deserve the best, and this is why we chose Omura.

Right from the start we knew we wanted to provide patients with safe, sleek, and sophisticated technology that allows them to administer their medication, quickly, and conveniently, and, even discreetly if need be.

Much like our proprietary HealthTech platform, and our partnership with Glass Pharms, our decision to partner with Omura was derived from our goal to improve patient experiences, and we believe investing in innovative technology is the way to do this.

So, before designing our Starter Kits, Releaf spent 3 months researching heat-not-burn technology, and what dry-herb vaporisers were available to medical cannabis patients in the UK.

The ingenuity of Omura’s biodegradable Flowersticks that ensures dosage control, and their impressive heat-not-burn technology is what really drew us to Omura. And, the fact that their devices are rechargeable, require no clean up, have timed sessions, and are sleek and stylish in design, helped to seal the deal.

Omura Flower Vaporiser

How do Omura devices work?

Omura uses a system of convection heating that pulls heated air through a Flowerstick, which has been pre-filled with ground medical cannabis. Lab tests show that this oven-like technology ensures 99% of cannabinoids are vaporised, which can then be inhaled by the patient.

As well as having timed sessions, these devices have a preprogrammed heat curve, which allows them to not only heat medical cannabis to the optimal temperature and not beyond this, but also, for the correct amount of time.

Throughout the session, this provides users with the perfect balance of effect, flavour, and overall experience, by extracting the terpenes and cannabinoids at exactly the right temperature. And, because Omura devices gently heat cannabis as opposed to burning it, no smoke is generated.

This means the only smell that is released, is in the vapour that is directly inhaled by the patient through the Flowerstick. Vapour is mostly retained in the lungs, and very little is exhaled, which allows patients to administer their medical cannabis discreetly.

Flowersticks are unique and exclusive to Omura vaporisers. They have been designed to be filled with 0.15 grams of compressed ground cannabis flower, acting as both capsules for the medication, and as biodegradable, compostable, disposable mouthpieces for the vaporiser.

Omura’s Home Fill System

As well as updating the Omura devices included in our Starter Kits, we now also include a Home Fill system that allows patients to fill 16 Flowersticks at once.

To use the Home Fill system, simply:

  1. Open the lid of a Flowerstick packet, and slide it into the system.
  2. Sprinkle around 2 grams of ground medical cannabis evenly along the top of the Home Fill System.
  3. Using the tamping top, push down to compact the medical cannabis into the Flowersticks.
  4. Slide the packet out of the Home Fill System and close the lid.

How to vape medical cannabis

  1. Insert a filled Flowerstick into a charged Omura device, flower side down. This will automatically turn it on. The lights will flash and it will vibrate.
  2. After 20-30 seconds, the lights will stop flashing and it will vibrate again. This means it is at the right temperature, and it is ready to use.
  3. Using the Flowerstick as a straw, inhale the vapour being produced. Inhaling vaporised medical cannabis allows for rapid onset, and effects are normally felt within two minutes.
  4. Omura sessions last approximately three minutes, and after this time the vaporiser will vibrate again, and the device will turn off.
  5. When the Flowerstick has cooled, dispose of it. They are biodegradable and compostable.

Releaf Managing Director, Tim Kirby said:

“At Releaf, we are committed to continually increasing the value we deliver to our patients by investing in innovative technology. As Omura’s exclusive UK medical cannabis clinic partner, upgrading the dosage control devices we send to patients with the newly released Omura X1, was simply natural progression.

We believe our patients deserve the best healthcare, and providing them with state-of-the art technology like Omura’s heat-not-burn dosage controlled device facilitates this, and gives them access to the most responsible dosage controlled technology available on the market today.”

What a difference a vape can make

From our patient feedback, it’s clear to see it’s not just us that realise how much of a difference the right vape can make.

Just take Maxim, for example. Maxim has been keeping an online diary to document his journey of becoming a medical cannabis patient in the UK, using medical cannabis to treat his chronic pain caused by a brachial plexus injury.

In his diary, Maxim writes

“Medical cannabis has managed to fit into my everyday life pretty smoothly, and because of how sleek the OMURA device is, it looks socially acceptable when I’m out in public…

“You can pre-fill Flowersticks with the required dosage at home…then all you need to do is load one into the OMURA and vape!”

Other patients echo this positive feedback, with Ryan, who has sciatica, saying:

“It surprised me how good the vaporiser is. It makes the cannabis so flavourful, and it tastes much better than when you smoke it because you can taste the terpenes and their individual notes.”

In the UK, medical cannabis is always prescribed with the intention, and instruction, of being inhaled using a vaporiser, or heat-not-burn device, and it will never be prescribed to be smoked. This is because medical professionals will not prescribe a medicine in a manner that is hazardous, harmful, or detrimental to health.

By providing patients with a safe, legal, heat-not-burn device that allows them to administer their medication in a precise and responsible manner, we ensure patients can get started on their medical cannabis treatment plan in the best way, and without delay.

Medical cannabis and menopause

Menopause is an inevitability for around half the population. It’s a biological standard and a natural part of ageing that affects around 33 million people - but - that doesn’t mean it’s easy to manage. Recently, interest surrounding alternative therapies has increased, and more women are now making the switch from traditional treatments like HRT to natural alternatives like medical cannabis for menopause symptom management.

THC: The ultimate guide to the most abundant cannabinoid

Humans have been reaping the benefits of cannabis for thousands of years, whether for its nutritional value, industrial uses, or its therapeutic potential. Yet, an almost worldwide prohibition of cannabis in recent decades has meant that education around this impressive and complex plant is lacking - even as a growing number of countries continue to re-introduce its medicinal use.

What is a cannabinoid?

Starting any new treatment option can be slightly daunting, but this is especially true when it comes to medical cannabis. Thanks to the more than century-long campaign of cannabis prohibition and stigmatisation, there is still an undercurrent of misinformation and misunderstanding around this fascinating plant and its potential therapeutic benefits - even though it has been a legal treatment option here in the UK for almost six years.
