The price of medical cannabis consultations

Unlike most other pharmaceuticals, medical cannabis was prohibited in the UK for almost 100 years because of its psychoactive qualities. As a consequence, now, the majority of practising doctors in the UK are relatively inexperienced in cannabis medicine because it has only been legally available since 2018.

Only doctors listed on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register can issue an initial prescription for cannabis-based medicines, to patients who are deemed suitable for treatment. And although there are 40,000 doctors listed on the GMC’s Specialist Register, only around 0.25% of those who can prescribe medical cannabis actually do. 

The majority of these work for private medical cannabis clinics like Releaf, although many still work for the NHS at the same time.

How much is a Releaf consultation?

All initial consultations cost £99.99 at Releaf. 

Follow-up appointments are required every 120 days after the first two months of treatment, and are free of charge for those on Releaf+, or priced at £69.99 for those who prefer to Pay As You Go. 

These consultations last for 20-30 minutes, and take place virtually to ensure your privacy, comfort, and convenience. 

During the initial consultation, our doctors will learn more about your specific needs and, depending on their findings, will explain how medical cannabis or cannabis-based medicines may be able to benefit your condition. If appropriate, they will issue a prescription for cannabis based medicines.

Medical cannabis prescription prices

If you are looking at other clinics like Mamedica, Curaleaf, or Lyphe as well as Releaf to compare medical cannabis prescription prices in the UK, it is important to know what is actually included in that price; whether the price stated is for solely the physical issuance of a prescription, or if it includes the consultation, medication, and delivery costs as well.

At Releaf, if our specialist doctors deem medical cannabis an appropriate treatment option for you during a consultation, the cost for issuing your prescription is included in the consultation fee. 

In the months when you are not required to see a clinician, repeat prescriptions are free for patients on the Releaf+ package, and priced at £19.99 for patients who prefer to Pay As You Go. 

Delivery is free of charge for all medication orders for those on Releaf+, or priced at £4.99 per order for those not using the subscription service. 

Medical cannabis flower prices

For those on Releaf+, regardless of the strain's strength or effects, medical cannabis costs £7.99 per gram. This equates to around £227 per ounce, although all cannabis flowers are prescribed in 10 gram intervals at Releaf. 

For those not on Releaf+, medical marijuana prices start from £9.99 per gram.

Price of cannabis oil

Prescribed cannabis oil costs start at £4.50 per ml for Releaf+ members, and £4.99 per ml for those not who have not joined Releaf+

At Releaf, all medical cannabis oils are prescribed in 30ml bottles.

How much are cannabis vapes?

Medical cannabis can be prescribed in flower form which is administered using a dry herb vaporiser, but it can also be prescribed as an extract which comes pre-packaged in a 0.5ml vape cartridge. 

Our cannabis extract prices start from £74.99 per vape cartridge for those on Releaf+, or from £79.99 for those using our Pay As You Go service.
