CBN: Cannabinol
CBN is one of the minor cannabinoids produced by cannabis plants, usually in concentrations less than 0.1%. CBN is short for cannabinol, and it is produced when THC degrades over time.
Cannabinol, or CBN, is a cannabinoid that is molecularly similar to THC. Once cannabis flowers have been exposed to air and light, THC can break down and convert into CBN, which is believed to have neuroprotective, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties.
What are the effects of CBN?
Research into CBN is very limited, but some studies suggest that CBN may have sedative effects, making it potentially helpful for insomnia and sleep disorders. It may also have anti-inflammatory properties and could potentially help with pain relief.
Does CBN cause psychoactive effects?
It can, but these are very mild compared to the effects of THC.
CBN is known to have some psychoactive properties, meaning it can affect a person's mood and mental state. However, these effects are nowhere near as strong as with THC, and CBN is generally considered mostly non-intoxicating.
Is CBN legal?
Yes, as long as it is part of a cannabis-based medicine that has been prescribed by a specialist. CBN is not legal for 'over the counter' sale here in the UK, unlike CBD.
