Wasting Syndrome

Also referred to as cachexia, wasting syndrome is a condition where the body experiences severe weight loss, muscle mass loss, fatigue, weakness, and reduced appetite. It is a common secondary diagnosis for patients suffering from chronic conditions, AIDS/HIV, and cancer. When THC binds to the CB1 receptor (one of the two endocannabinoid system receptors), it can stimulate appetite and the desire for a patient suffering from wasting syndrome to eat.
