Cuttings

A cutting is a removed section of a plant that has been cut. Cuttings are more commonly referred to as clones when discussing cannabis.

'Cuttings' or 'clones' of plants are cut off and introduced to a rooting hormone to grow new roots, creating a genetic replica of the plant it came from.

Why are cuttings made?

By growing a full cannabis crop sourced from cuttings of a single plant, commercial cannabis growers can ensure a consistent quality, potency, and yield of their crops. This is very important for medical cannabis cultivators, as there is heavy regulatory oversight that governs medical cannabis in the UK.

By growing from clones, medical cannabis growers can ensure the entire crop is the same from a genetic standpoint, which allows them to produce a product that is consistent in its medicinal properties.
