Consumer cannabidiol

Consumer cannabidiol products are CBD products that can purchased without a prescription in high-street stores and from online retailers.

The term ‘consumer cannabidiol’ is used by the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs to refer to CBD products that are not licenced medicines and instead are sold commercially to promote wellbeing. Consumer cannabidiol is available in many different forms including food supplements, drinks, cosmetics, oils, and vaping liquids.

Is CBD oil legal?

Yes, CBD oil is legal for over-the-counter sale here in the UK, as long as it meets certain requirements. The product must contain less than 0.2% THC or less than 1 mg of THC per container. THC is the main psychoactive ingredient produced by cannabis plants.

Will consumer cannabidiol products make me feel 'high'?

No. Products containing less than 0.2% THC or less than 1 mg of THC per container will not produce psychoactive effects. This means that you will not feel 'high' from using consumer cannabidiol products.

What are the health benefits of consumer cannabidiol products?

CBD has been shown, through rigorous scientific research, to have potential positive effects on various health conditions such as anxiety, chronic pain, inflammation, and epilepsy. It has also shown the potential to boost mood, improve sleep, and promote overall wellbeing.

Are there any side effects from using consumer cannabidiol products?

While CBD is generally considered safe, there are potential side effects that may occur in some individuals. These can include dry mouth, drowsiness, and changes in appetite, or gastrointestinal discomfort. It is recommended to consult with a specialist doctor before using consumer cannabidiol products, especially if you have any underlying health conditions.

What is the difference between consumer cannabidiol products and medical-grade CBD oil?

The medical cannabis industry is subject to far more regulation and testing than the consumer cannabidiol industry. Medical-grade CBD oil must undergo rigorous testing and quality control checks to ensure its safety and efficacy for treating specific medical conditions.
