Medical cannabis products are profiled depending on the cannabinoid contents. Cannabinoid profiles detail the potency and concentration of active cannabinoids within all medical cannabis products. This helps patients and their prescribing specialist determine which product is best suited to their needs and provides them with the necessary information required to calculate the appropriate dose. 

  

What are cannabinoids?

  

There are two groups of cannabinoids - plant-derived (phytocannabinoids) and those produced within our bodies (endocannabinoids). These compounds interact with the body's endocannabinoid system (and other neurotransmitters), responsible for maintaining balance and regulating physiological processes to regulate functions such as pain, mood, appetite, inflammation, and memory.

  

What cannabinoids are offered in medical cannabis?

  

That depends on the specific strain or form of medical cannabis being used. Generally, the most common cannabinoids found in medical cannabis are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). However, there are over 110 different cannabinoids that have been identified in Cannabis Sativa L. plants.

  

Is CBN a cannabinoid?

  

Yes, CBN (cannabinol) is one of the many cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. It is often present in small amounts compared to THC and CBD, but it has been shown to have potential therapeutic effects, such as pain relief and sedation.

CBN is a minor cannabinoid.
