Plant-based, alternative Neuropathic pain treatment
Neuropathic pain is caused when nerves that carry sensations to the brain are affected by a health condition, or if the nervous system is damaged or malfunctions for any reason. While conventional approaches and traditional treatments offer relief for a lot of those with neuropathic pain, alternative, natural options have emerged as a new, and popular, choice amongst those who are yet to find relief with treatments traditionally used by the NHS.

A word from our specialist
"Neurological conditions are many and varied in how they can affect us. The more recognised conditions that are treatable with medical cannabis include epilepsy, where CBD mimics the action of the many anti-epileptic drugs; and multiple sclerosis, which the NHS can prescribe Sativex for. Medical Cannabis offers greater flexibility in the delivery of cannabinoid therapy for these conditions and hope in other areas of neurology, such as in the neurodegenerative conditions and the motor disorders."

Can plant-based alternatives be used to treat neuropathic pain symptoms?
There are over 100 different types of peripheral neuropathy, and so symptoms of neuropathic pain can largely vary. Depending on the type of neuropathic pain, it can sometimes feel like a stabbing or burning sensation, and at other times the pain can feel more tingly or numb - but it is often persistent, and debilitating to deal with.
In the UK, adults struggling to manage the symptoms of neuropathic pain with conventional licensed treatment options may be considered eligible for plant-based approaches, however, unfortunately many are unaware of this.
At Releaf we offer bespoke, personalised plant-based treatment plans for patients with treatment resistant neuropathic pain, and our team of specialist consultants are well versed, and qualified, in using natural, alternative therapies to treat different types of pain, including nerve pain.
Emerging evidence suggests that certain plant-based products may be useful in managing neuropathic pain because of the way they are absorbed by the body. When they enter the body, some of their natural compounds can enter the endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for regulating pain responses, and can be mistaken by the body for those we naturally produce ourselves.
Once inside this system, these chemicals can influence the brain’s perception of pain, and for some, reduce the intensity of pain sensations. This is why specialist doctors, for example those that work for private healthcare clinics like Releaf, can recommend these options to people who have been unable to get the same results using traditional approaches.
