Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) alternative, natural treatment

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is the name given to a group of lung conditions that cause increasing breathing difficulties and limit a persons' ability to complete their normal activities, such as, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Recent research suggests new, plant-based COPD treatments could be an effective and beneficial option for those who are struggling to manage their symptoms.

Symptoms

Excessive phlegm

Frequent chest infections

Persistent cough

Persistent wheezing

Shortness of breath

If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, you may have cognitive obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Please speak with your GP to find out more.

Treatment options:

Because smokers are at a much higher risk of developing COPD, and it is a disease that develops gradually over time, it is always recommended to stop smoking - especially if you have already been diagnosed with COPD. The NHS typically prescribe bronchodilator inhalers, either short or long acting, steroids, and antibiotics to help patients manage symptoms.

Antibiotics

Salbutamol

Salmeterol

Steroids

Terbutaline

Tiotropium

A word from our specialist

“The growing awareness that female physiological differences can lead to the misdiagnosis of conditions, highlights the need for clinical approaches that better account for these variations. Other conditions such as endometriosis can take up to seven years to be diagnosed, all the while the patient is passed from pillar to post and started on a plethora of medication in the hope that distress is alleviated. Experience now tells us that medical cannabis is a particularly effective treatment for menstrual-related pain conditions.“

Can plant-based treatments help alleviate COPD symptoms?

Research studies have shown that in some cases, natural compounds can act as bronchodilators, and these qualities can be harnessed in plant-based alternatives.

When administered under clinical supervision and careful monitoring, natural alternative COPD treatments can improve sleep, support the immune system and reduce phlegm. Researchers have also been able to demonstrate how certain plant chemicals have the ability to reduce airway inflammation and increase forced vital capacity (FVC) which improves overall lung function.

When these chemicals are included in treatments, they can be a powerful tool for patients with COPD who are struggling to manage their symptoms with conventional medicines.

Natural COPD treatments are typically formulated into oils, to be absorbed under the tongue, or available in dried flower form, which is vaporised in a safe device, and then inhaled into the lungs.
