This is exactly why, in 2018, the UK government relaxed the laws surrounding the sale of CBD.

Leading up to this decision, public outcry over more than a few key cases (notably those of Billy Caldwell and Alfie Dingley) pushed the Parliament to have a closer look at the therapeutic potential of cannabis.

They found:

• Medical cannabis products containing above 0.2% THC are legitimate treatment options with the ability to help treat the root cause (or the symptoms) of a huge range of health concerns - but they must be prescribed by a specialist listed on the GMC’s specialist register.
• Non-prescription CBD products containing less than 0.2% THC can be legally sold over the counter, but must not be marketed as a medicine.

For CBD to be sold legally without a prescription in the UK, CBD oil (and other CBD products) must contain less than 1 mg of THC per container, or less than 0.2% THC.
