Releaf: Introducing Beyond the Script - Cannabis conversations that matter

Let’s face it - we live in a fast-paced world, and one where content is key. 

People want content that's credible, engaging, informative, and above all, easy to access whenever, and wherever. And that’s exactly why podcasts are becoming increasingly popular. 

In fact, recent evidence suggests that 42% of UK adults have listened to a podcast in the last month, and almost a third (30%) have listened to one in the last week. 

So, it’s no surprise that we’re stepping into the podcast space, and we’re doing it with purpose. 

Why did we launch a podcast?

Evolving and improving patient experiences is something we’ve always been committed to, not only in our clinic or on our patient platform, but through our content too. This is a true reflection of our latest mission. Learning about medical cannabis shouldn’t feel like a chore, it should feel like a conversation - hence Releaf’s podcast, Beyond The Script. 

Through this podcast we’ve ensured that cannabis content is not only credible and compelling, but convenient too. The response so far? Episode one has already been viewed over 2,000 times on YouTube - and we’re only just getting started. 

What is Beyond The Script about?

Created in collaboration with Business of Cannabis, Beyond The Script offers first-hand insights from scientists and CEOs, to lawyers and other leading voices in the medical cannabis space, to make this information more accessible to those who really need it: patients themselves. 

Every month a different industry expert sits down with a member of the Releaf team to share their thoughts on their respective specialisms, from UK cannabis law and business, to finance, scientific advancements, industry research and so much more, to push medical cannabis awareness further into the mainstream. 

Now, you can be walking the dog, cleaning the house, or cooking your favourite meal, all while expanding your cannabis-based knowledge. 

What subjects are being spoken about on Releaf’s podcast?

The first four episodes of Releaf’s Beyond The Script have already been released, with guest speakers James Duckenfield, Robert Jappie, Professor Saoirse O’Sullivan and Michael Sassano sharing their expertise, in respect to medical cannabis supply chains, UK medical cannabis law, and cannabinoid pharmacology. 

And we’re not stopping there. 

From plant to patient to political change, Beyond The Script aims to cover it all, and its name is indicative of this. We’ve carefully designed this podcast to break down complex cannabis topics into warm, engaging and consumable content and showcase how Releaf isn’t just a medical cannabis clinic, we’re a hive of industry experts committed to improving the awareness, and education surrounding, medical cannabis here in the UK.

Episode one saw our Chief Executive Officer, Tim Kirby, sit down with CEO James Duckenfeild of  Glass Pharms®, - the UK’s first medical cannabis manufacturer - to speak on all things supply chain. Episode two welcomes Robert Jappie, a renowned lawyer from Feildfisher LLP. Here, Robert Jappie and Tim Kirby discuss the little-known and slow-moving legal and regulatory frameworks that exist within the medical cannabis space, exploring their functionality, and their implications, for both industry players, and the patients we’re passionate about supporting. 

Professor Saoirse O’Sullivan, a highly respected cannabinoid pharmacologist, meets with our Chief Medical Officer, Graham Woodward, in episode three to speak on the current clinical approach to cannabis-based medicines, the outdated ideologies and misconceptions about these treatments, and the evidence available that supports their use. From the entourage effect to an in-depth explanation of THC and CBD, this episode of Beyond The Script makes cannabis science accessible to the masses.

And our latest release, episode four, is hosted by Tim Kirby, and Michael Sassano, CEO and Chairman of the Board of SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals - our most recent industry partner. In this insightful episode, the two CEOs discuss the challenges that medical cannabis market expansion face, from product formulation, to patient accessibility and advanced extraction techniques, to the necessity for vertically integrated supply chains, and improved education for healthcare professionals, both here in the UK, and abroad.
