Hempcrete

Hempcrete is a construction material made from the inner woody stem of hemp plants, also known as hurd. It is mixed with water and a lime-based binder to create an eco-friendly and sustainable building material.

Hempcrete is used primarily as an insulation material in construction. It can also be used for walls, floors, and roofs. Due to its lightweight nature, hempcrete is not suitable for supporting the weight of a building, unlike conventional concrete.

Is hempcrete more expensive than traditional construction materials?

Hempcrete may have a slightly higher upfront cost compared to traditional materials like concrete, but depending on how it is used, it can actually save money in the long run thanks to its insulating properties. It also has a longer lifespan and is more environmentally friendly, making it a cost-effective choice in the long term.

Are there any other benefits to using hempcrete over traditional materials?

Aside from how eco-friendly and cost-effective it can be long term, hempcrete also has excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties. It is also fire-resistant, breathable, and can absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as it cures.
