SAS: Special Access Scheme Category A
In Australia if an authorised prescriber deems it appropriate, they can prescribe patients who are terminally ill with unregistered medicinal cannabis under the Special Access Scheme, Category A.
This initiative allows terminally ill patients to access unregistered cannabis based medicines without approval from the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration. Medications and medicinal products are scheduled into categories in the Special Access Scheme, and only unregistered, imported cannabis based products are eligible for SASCA.
